SIP Proxy Server

Using an SIP Proxy server is a good start if you want to browse the web at work without getting caught, but it’s only one small step. There are a lot of other ways that you can get caught besides simply having your internet browsing history show up on the browser. Here are a few more tips to make sure you don’t get in trouble at work…

Watch Your Back

Try not to be checking your email with a reflective surface behind you, don’t go visiting adult sites with your mirror shades on and for the love of Pete, don’t use the computer that’s hooked up to a bunch of display monitors in the lobby. There’s a practical side to being safe, too. Just as no amount of anti-virus software can stop someone from just grabbing your laptop and running, no amount of proxy hiding can stop your boss from walking behind you and seeing what you’re really up to.

Create a Fake History

If your job does require you being on the web, then having an hour of inactivity when you deleted your history isn’t really realistic. If this is you, you can load up a few Wikipedia articles or something relevant to work and simply change the page and click another link every so often. If someone’s spying on your browsing history, they’ll be none the wiser.

Have a Cover Story

At the very least, don’t be the only person browsing the web in your office when you’re not supposed to. At the very least, you could be sharing a computer with someone else and if they get caught, you say “Oh man, so THAT’S why the computer was running so slow!” Having a scapegoat who’s just as guilty as you is never a bad idea!
In all seriousness, just use your head. Most employers really don’t care as long as you’re not too obvious about it and as long as it doesn’t interfere with your ability to do your job. Just don’t flaunt it and you should be okay.
